Battle of Lexington and Concord (April 19, 1775)

My name is James Williams from Boston, Massachusetts. I am 16 years old, and I live in on an animal farm with my family. Life is very hard in 1775, many people in the 13 colonies were very poor. The Great Britain treated us unfairly by taxing people like my parents a lot of money. Yet they still didn’t let our leaders be represented in the British government!

Currently, I am working tirelessly for my family. All I want is freedom and independence from British rule. So, I decided to fight in the local militia. I signed up for the Continental Army, which is going to be commanded by George Washington. I felt angry, excited, and a bit scared all at the same time.

On my first day, I was handed a musket with a bayonet, some extra ammunition, a canteen of water and a blue shiny uniform. My uniform consisted of long blue coats, white pants, black boots, and a extra sword just in case my musket gets stolen. As I strolled around the camp I witnessed people with artillery such as cannons, mortars, howitzers, and missiles. I also saw more experienced soldiers trained target practice with rifles, I feel they are more better than me and wanted to be someone like them one day.

On April 19, 1775, I was sent to the battle of the Lexington and Concord. The British were the first to fire, and white smoke exploded everywhere. I could barely see clearly, so all I could do was to shoot towards my enemies.

“BANG!”

“BOOM!”

“PEW!”

I saw my fallen comrades go one by one. My head was pouring with sweat, I started to believe that the next one might be me. I closed my eyes tightly as my ears rang with all the noise……
